5-23-13 merkel appointed to council

The Fond du lac city council has officially filled a vacancy on the council.  At their meeting Wednesday night the council voted five to one to appoint Karen Merkel to the post.  Merkel replaces Jim Sabel who retired earlier this year due to health reasons.  Merkel will officially be sworn into office June 12^th.  Council president Sam Meyer says Merkel will have to step down from the Advisory Park Board and Redevelopment Authority.  She will receive new committee assignments after she is sworn into office.  Merkel is a manager at Charter Communications.
