6-1-13 leadership fdl team installs downtown bike racks
A
team of the Leadership Fond du Lac program is pleased to announce the
installation of 20 bike racks along Main Street in downtown Fond du Lac, meant
to encourage the use of bicycles and to promote a healthier mode of
transportation. The racks were installed
on May 10, 2013 on Main Street between the blocks of Merrill Avenue and 4th
Street/Western Avenue. The
project began in the fall of 2012 when members of Team Rock Solid identified a
lack of designated areas to park bicycles on Main Street. To verify their thoughts, members of the team
surveyed downtown businesses to get their opinions on the matter. After compiling the data, the results were
clear and it was determined that bike racks would be a great benefit to downtown
Fond du Lac. Upon approval of the
project, the team worked together to develop a design, designate locations for
the racks, find a manufacturer and raise the funds to purchase the racks. Team Rock Solid is pleased to announce that
they were able to exceed their initial goal and installed 20 bike racks for the
use of the Fond du Lac community for many years to come. The
design, purchase and installation of the racks was organized by Team Rock Solid
members: Linda Ahrens of Aurora HealthCare, Robb Duveneck of Fond du Lac City
Police Department, Ellen Mielke of Fox Valley Savings Bank, Mike Schumacher of
Valders Stone & Marble Inc/Eden Stone, Megan Stahmann of Habitat for
Humanity and Pam VandeBerg of Mercury Marine.
