5-20-13 fire safety program
In the wake of a fatal fire in Oshkosh where there were no
working smoke alarms, the Fond du Lac Fire Department is launching a new
fire safety campaign. Fire Chief Peter O’Leary says under the program every time a
residential fire occurs in the city firefighters will canvass a one block
radius the day after the fire to make contact with residents or tag the home with
a newly created fire safety door hanger. O’Leary says the department has developed a home fire safety
checklist to help residents identify the most common hazards in a home. If a home does not have a working smoke alarm, firefighters
will either change out a missing battery or install a new alarm, free of charge. The Fond du Lac Fire Department has responded to 15
structure fires so far this year.
