A community forum at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, will focus on the local impact of proposed taxpayer-funded school voucher program expansion.
The forum, sponsored by the Fond du Lac Area Retired Educators in association with the Fond du Lac School District, will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Goodrich Little Theater, 72 West Ninth Street, Fond du Lac, WI.
Currently in Wisconsin, the voucher program exists in Milwaukee and Racine, allocating tax dollars to pay for students’ private school tuition. School districts are not allowed to include voucher students in their enrollment count that is used to determine the districts’ general school aid amount. Yet, to cover the required local share of the voucher payment, the state withholds general school aid that would otherwise support the education of the districts’ public school students. To make up for the lost aid, the local school board is forced to raise property taxes or cut education programs.
What: Residents are invited to attend a forum about area public schools and the impact of vouchers, featuring a panel of Wisconsin education leaders and experts.
Featured Panelists: Elizabeth Hayes, President, Fond du Lac School Board; Jim Shaw, former Superintendent of Racine schools, University of Wisconsin professor; Jim Sebert, Superintendent of Fond du Lac Public Schools; Aaron Sadoff, Superintendent of North Fond du Lac Public Schools
When: Wednesday, May 22, 7:00 p.m.
Where: Goodrich Little Theater, 72 West Ninth Street, Fond du Lac, WI
Sponsored By: Fond du Lac Area Retired Educators, in association with the Fond du Lac School District.
