8-7-13 st. mary's springs says goodbye to "old main" and launches multi-million dollar fundraising campaign

St. Mary’s Springs Academy in Fond du lac is saying goodbye to the historic “Old Main”  building…and launching a public fundraising campaign for a new school building.  An Old Main farewell ceremony was held Tuesday night for the building which was built in 1928.  St Mary’s Springs Academy president Kevin Shaw says "Old Main" served as a high school until 1970 when the current high school opened.  "The building is going to be taken down within a few weeks.  We plan to build another building to replace it so that we can have K-12 students all on one campus,"  Shaw told WFDL news.  Shaw says a $21 million fundraising effort is now underway to help pay for a new 80,000 square foot facility on the site of the Old Main building.  Shaw says the hope is to break ground next spring or early next summer and to open in the fall of 2016.  "I am ecstatic,"  Shaw told WFDL news.  "The opportunity for us moving forward with a K-12 campus is tremendous.  We will be able to retain our students better, we will be able to market and brand our school better.  Its just going to be a great thing for the Fond du Lac community."   In addition to the new building plans call for remodeling the current high school building.
