8-23-13 fdl woman sentenced to prison for bar fight

A Fond du Lac woman whose brother is prison for killing a man and whose ex-husband shot and killed a police officer is going to prison.   Thirty three year old Sammi Cruckson pleaded no contest to substantial battery and two counts of bail jumping and a disorderly conduct charge were dismissed and read into the record.   Fond du lac Judge Peter Grimm sentenced Cruckson to a year in prison and two years extended supervision.  Fond du Lac police say in January Cruckson initiated a fight at the D and D tavern on West Division Street, striking a woman in the head.   According to a police report Cruckson repeatedly shoved the woman's head into a snow bank outside the bar.  The victim was transported to the hospital and required stitches to close the wound.   Cruckson is the ex-wife of the late James Cruckson.  He was the man who shot and killed Fond du Lac police officer Craig Birkholz in the D and D tavern parking lot and shot and wounded another officer before taking his own life.  Sammi Cruckson is the sister of Travis Seaton who is serving a 15 year prison sentence after he was convicted of first degree reckless homicide in 2008.  Seaton punched a man who died after falling and striking his head on the sidewalk in downtown Fond du lac.
