MILWAUKEE (AP) — The founder of the Experimental Aircraft Association, a group of aviation enthusiasts known for hosting one of the world's largest air shows, has died in Wisconsin. EAA announced the death of Paul Poberezny on Thursday on behalf of his family. The organization said Poberezny had died that morning after a fight with cancer. He was 91. A former military pilot, Poberezny gathered a group of recreational aviation enthusiasts in Milwaukee in 1953 to form a club for those who built and restored aircraft. Now based in Oshkosh, EAA provides education and training programs for recreational pilots and hosts AirVenture, one of the nation's largest air shows and pilots' conventions. EAA spokesman Dick Knapinski says Poberezny continued to participate in EAA events despite retiring from day-to-day involvement in 1989.
