8-21-13 fire at merc marine

Nobody was injured in a fire at Fond du lac’s Mercury Marine.  On August 20, 2013 at 7:23 p.m., the Fond du Lac Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at Merc Marine Plant 15. Upon arrival, fire crews observed light smoke coming from the roof area and further investigation found the fire was extinguished by the sprinkler system. The fire was located in an oven by the paint line area with damaged confined to this area.  Fire crews were assisted by Merc Marine maintenance personnel in shutting the sprinkler system down to this area. J. F. Ahern was on scene working with Merc Marine personnel to restore the sprinkler system. The cause of the fire was a build of material in the painting process and the machinery involved.
