8-6-13 emerald ash borer discovered in fdl county
City of Fond du Lac officials were notified last week the
Emerald Ash Borer has been located within Fond du Lac County, indicating that
the destructive beetle is several miles closer than previously known.
(Please see the attached DATCP press release for more information.) This
will likely accelerate the City’s plans for a public information initiative and
the preemptive removal of many ash trees from the City parks and
terraces. Residents may be given an opportunity to have public ash trees
in their area remain by expressing an interest in paying to have the ash trees
treated at the appropriate time. A public information meeting with the DNR had already been
scheduled for Monday, October 28th at 4:30 p.m. in the Legislative Chambers of
the City/County Government Center. Due to the discovery of the EAB location
within the County, residents are encouraged to attend the informational meeting.
Residents are also encouraged to familiarize themselves with the quarantine
terms covered under DATCP’s press release. Further information can be
obtained from the City’s Public Works Department at 322-3472.
