8-13 Oshkosh Corp Layoffs

OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — Military vehicle maker Oshkosh Corp. has laid off at least 950 people in two phases this year — enough for the region to qualify for federal aid.
The layoffs were the result of 30 percent decline in demand for the military vehicles Oshkosh Corp. produces.

Since the number of layoffs exceeded 1 percent of the city of Oshkosh's total workforce, the region qualified for economic assistance from the U.S. Department of Defense.
Oshkosh Northwestern Media reports that the funding will range between $750,000 and $1 million spread out over several years. The money is intended to help deal with the effect of Pentagon budget cuts in the area's workforce and on companies that provide parts and equipment to Oshkosh Corp.
