The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture and state Department
of Transportation is holding a series of town hall meetings to discuss the
impact of agricultural equipment on state roadways.
Concern of the potential damage heavy farm equipment can do to roads is causing officials to look for ways to
handle the situation. Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation government relations
director Karen Gefvert tells AM 1170 WFDL's Between the Lines program a study committee received several reports of farm equipment exceeding the
legal weight limits. Municipal officials and farmers are handling the problem
with large farm equipment on public roads in interesting ways. Some municipalities are creating one way
roads to allow equipment to go down the center. In some places farmers are using pipes to transport manure over and under roads.
