The city of Fond du Lac has awarded a contract to a Minoqua
firm for a major dredging project at Lakeside
Park. Public Works Director Jordan Skiff
says the nearly $1 million contract has been awarded to Petersen Companies/PCi Dredging of
Minoqua. Skiff says prep work will start next week with the actual
pumping of the channels to start in early November.
The Lakeside Park channel will be deepened from just a few feet to closer to eight feet. Skff says the city recently learned that it will receive at least some financial assistance from the state. Skiff the the hydraulic method to remove material will
involve much less disruption of the park than other forms of dredging. He says the work will not be overly noisy or
dirty, will not track sediment onto roadways and will not involve
heavy truck traffic. The project will also not require the removal of trees or extensive
restoration of the park upon completion. He says the company will run their barges seven days a week,
24 hours a day, but says the noise and lights should have a minimal impact on neighborhood
residents.
