MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A proposal to allow off-duty, retired and out-of-state police officers to carry concealed weapons at Wisconsin schools won't be getting a vote in the state Assembly. Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos's spokeswoman Kit Beyer said Wednesday that the measure will not be voted on. Beyer did not immediately respond to an email asking why. The proposal is sponsored by Republican Rep. Joel Kleefisch, the chairman of the Assembly's Criminal Justice Committee. Kleefisch wants to broaden his bill to allow anyone with a concealed weapon permit to carry guns in school buildings and on school grounds. Kleefisch planned to put that idea to a committee vote Thursday, but says he didn't expect that amendment to be adopted.
