MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Democrat Mary Burke's campaign says a new poll showing her in a dead heat with Republican Gov. Scott Walker indicates that voters are open to new leadership. The Marquette University Law School poll released Tuesday shows Walker with 47 percent support compared with 45 percent for Burke roughly one year before the election. That is within the poll's 5 percentage point margin of error.
But it also shows 70 percent of voters don't know who Burke is. Burke's campaign spokesman Joe Zepecki says in a statement that the results confirm that the state remains deeply divided politically and is open to new leadership. Burke is the only declared Democratic candidate. State Sen. Kathleen Vinehout is also considering getting into the race.
