10-5-13 former milwaukee county sheriff's sergeant sentenced in fdl county child sex assault case

A former Milwaukee County Sheriff’s sergeant convicted of sexually assaulting young girls he was videotaping at a Fond du Lac County campsite will spend more time behind bars. At a sentencing hearing Friday afternoon Fond du lac Judge Gary Sharpe sentenced Philip Wentzel to 25 years in prison and four years extended supervision to run concurrent to a 40 year federal prison sentence he is serving in Indiana for possession of child pornography.  Judge Sharpe also sentenced Wentzel to ten years in prison and four years  extended supervision to run consecutive to the federal prison sentence.  Wentzel earlier pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault of a child and nine other counts were dismissed and read into the record.  According to a criminal complaint Wentzel sexually assaulted girls ages seven, 14 and 15 and the girls appeared to be drugged.  The incidents occurred in May 2010 at a campsite near Long Lake in southeast Fond du Lac County.
