10-4-13 petri-government shutdown

Fond du Lac congressman Tom Petri says he was surprised by the federal government shutdown.  Petri says he thought for sure an agreement would be worked out last weekend prior to the  deadline.  "Well its disappointing, I had assumed as I think many people had that people were in a bargaining situation and establishing positions but at the day they would come together,'  Petri told AM 1170 WFDL's Between the Lines program.  Responding to comments by fellow Republican congressman Peter King, that tea party-backed members of the House Republican Caucus are trying to hijack the party.  "There's a lot of tension in both political parties.  I think people want to stir the pot and fix blame but the underlying concern is we're talking about the federal budget,"  Petri said.
Petri says at this point he's not sure how long the shutdown will last.
