A Fond du Lac city councilmember says discrimination against transgender persons exists in Fond du Lac and he wants the
council to take action to put a stop to it. Openly gay councilmember Dan Manning is sponsoring an
ordinance that would add gender identity and expression to the list of
protected classes in the city’s fair housing ordinance. "This ordinance came about, I was out in the community and hearing from some of the residents here that its necessary and important," Manning told AM 1170 WFDL's Between the Lines program. "One in five people who identify as transgender have experienced homelessness and one in ten have been evicted just because of who they are and that's just absolutely unacceptable." The city council will discuss the proposal at a Committtee
of the Whole workshop next week.
