10-17-13 fdl lakeside park community forum

Fond du lac police say stepped up enforcement resulted in fewer problems this past summer at Lakeside Park.   Police held a second community forum Wednesday night as a follow-up to a community forum held back in May that discussed concerns of vandalism, disorderly conduct and
other quality of life violations in and around the park.  Fond du lac assistant police chief, Steve Klein, says there was a lot more police presence in the park last summer.  "We had very low tolerance for disorderly conduct with a motor vehicle.  In years past we would get complaints of cars racing through the park, squealing their tires, incidents of vandalism, fights taking place,"  Klein said.  'We really wanted to get out ahead of that before the start of the summer and send a strong message that we were not going to tolerate those types of behaviors."    Klein says  one of the suggestions  raised at the first community forum was for the city to explore the possibility of installing surveillance cameras at the park.  "We're in the process of obtaining some surveillance cameras through grants,"  Klein said.  "That will be one of the areas we potentially would use those cameras, we would identify areas we feel that they can be the most beneficial and we're hoping to take delivery of those soon."
