5-4-13 fdl police department law of the month

May is National Bike Month.  The Fond du Lac Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind the citizens of Fond du Lac about the importance of bicycle safety and following the rules of the road.   For the month of May the Police Department will be concentrating their enforcement efforts on bicycle violations as the law of the month.   It is our goal that with education and enforcement we can reduce the amount of accidents due to violations of current bicycle laws and ordinances throughout the city. It cannot be stressed enough that bicycle safety and education should start at home.

In addition, the Police Department does put on a number of “bicycle safety rodeos” at schools throughout the year to assist in educating young riders.
Click here for more information on the City of Fond du Lac Bicycle Ordinance.  Ordinance 7.10 Bicycles is found under Chapter 7 of the Traffic Code.

Please remember - bicycle safety is important for riders of all ages and all bicycle riders are encouraged to wear a proper fitting helmet. Through education and the enforcement of bicycle safety, we are making the City of Fond du Lac a safe place to live, learn, work, and play.
