With gas prices at or around four dollars a gallon in much
of Wisconsin, E85 is being touted as a smart way to save, while doing some good
for the environment. Jerry Medinger is with the Clean Fuels and Vehicle
Technology program for the American Lung Association in Wisconsin. Medinger says the other benefits of using E85 include
keeping the air cleaner, helping achieve energy security and boosting the economy. There are a quarter million flex fuel vehicles in Wisconsin,
more than eight million nationwide that can use E85. The
easiest way to tell if your vehicle can use E85 is to check your gas cap…if its yellow, you have a flex fuel vehicle. Medinger says its always a good idea to save fuel whenever possible. He says unnecessary idling is a real
gas-waster, be sure your tires are properly inflated, and avoid quick
starts and stops. Less weight in the vehicle also means better fuel economy.
