6-27-13 state workers pay

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The head of the Wisconsin State Employees Union isn't happy with a 1 percent pay raise for state workers in each of the next two years.  Marty Beilsaid the raise approved Wednesday won't even come close to holding workers' salaries flat in the face of health insurance and pension cost increases.  And Beil says discretion given agency heads means not all workers will get the pay raise.  A Republican-controlled legislative committee approved the raises with no public comment.  The two Democrats on the committee voted for it, but expressed concerns that it wasn't enough given that state workers have seen the equivalent of a 12 percent pay cut the past two years due to increased pension and health care contributions.
