The
Fond du Lac Symphonic Band will present its traditional Americana
Concert in the historic Joseph Schmitz bandstand at Lakeside Park in
Fond du Lac on Wednesday, the 4th of July, beginning at 7:30
p.m. Erected and donated to the community by William McDermott, the
bandstand has been home to Fourth of July band concerts since 1901 and
was placed on the local registry of historic landmarks in 1973. Vocalists Stephanie Vinz will sing the Star-Spangled Banner Finale, and Ralph Schwartz will do a Neil Diamond medley. Both vocalists will be featured in This Is My Country and Armed Forces Pride – the songs of the U. S. Military. Medleys from various American eras and genres include the music of Hoagy Carmichael and selections from The Music Man. The program also features Richard Rodgers’ Victory at Sea, Chorale and Shaker Dance by Zdechlik, and Tommy Dorsey’s Boogie Woogie. Completing the evening's musical entertainment are American marches including King Cotton, Black Horse Troop, Liberty Bell, and concluding with the official United States National March: The Stars and Stripes Forever.
The Band’s performance will be followed by fireworks on the lakefront.
The Symphonic Band’s summer concerts in Fond du Lac are sponsored by the
City of Fond du Lac, and a free-will offering will be received to
assist with summer concert expenses.
