A spokesman for AARP Wisconsin says new U.S. Census Bureau
figures that show Wisconsin’s senior population continues to grow doesn’t
come as a surprise. People 65 and older account for 14.4 percent of Wisconsin’s
population. That’s an increase from 13.7 percent recorded in the April 2010
census. AARP Wisconsin spokesperson Jim Flaherty says those
numbers will continue to grow. Flaherty says the number one challenge is for the state and
federal government and communities to be prepared for that population to move into
that cycle of life. Flaherty made the comments on AM 1170 WFDL's Between the Lines program. An estimated 824,500 seniors lived in Wisconsin last year.
