The executive director of the Free Spirit Riders says all
six horses injured in a dog attack this week are expected to recover. The horses were bit multiple times by a dog running loose in the pasture at Free Spirit Riders on Highway 23 east of Fond
du lac. Free Spirit Riders director Mary Narges says the
veterinarians did a great job treating the horses. Meanwhile rabies tests on the dog are being conducted at the Wisconsin Hygiene Lab. Free Spirit Riders is a non profit organization that provides
therapy horseback riding for disabled people.
Classes are canceled for at least this week and Narges says she is concerned about coming up with the money
to pay the vet bills. Fond du lac Animal Shelter manager Renee Webb says she hopes
the community steps up to help the organization. Webb says the incident points to the importance of making
sure your pet dog is under control and not allowed to run at large. A 35 year old Fond du lac County man was cited for allowing a dog to run at large.
