A Watertown man is going to prison for
an October 2012 drunken driving crash that killed his girlfriend. On Monday, Dodge County Circuit Court Judge
Steven Bauer sentenced 24 year old Wesley Ismert to seven years of initial
confinement and ten years of extended supervision. In March, Ismert pleaded no contest to a
charge of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle. According to a
criminal complaint, Ismert was allegedly driving his vehicle on Hill Street in
Watertown at a high rate of speed, when he lost control, hit the curb and a
utility pole, and the vehicle rolled over. 21 year old Valerie Schmudlach, a passenger in
the vehicle, died from injuries she suffered in the crash. Ismert’s blood
alcohol concentration was .144.
