DELAVAN, Wis. (AP) — A reward of $1,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest of whoever beat a snapping turtle at a Wisconsin golf course. The Department of Natural Resources says it happened Monday between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. at the Delbrook Golf Club in Delavan. The turtle was a female looking for a place to lay her eggs. She was found lying in a sand bunker and apparently had been beaten with a golf club. Wildlife rehabilitators say the turtle had holes in her shell and also was struck in the right eye. Surgery was planned Tuesday. The DNR says the turtle has about a 40 percent chance of survival.
The Global Conservation Club of Wisconsin is offering the reward. Anyone with information can call the DNR Hotline at 1-800-TIP-WDNR.
