6-4-13 fdl county well water samples better than state average

About 100 residents in two Fond du lac County townships have learned that their well water samples are better than the state average.   UW Fond du Lac extension agent, Diana Tscheschlok,
says coliform bacteria, nitrate, and arsenic, three of the most common problems detected in well water systems, were found minimally or not at all in the 188 wells sampled in the towns of Fond du lac and Oakfield.  Tscheschlok says less than one percent of samples had nitrate levels above the recommended drinking water limit, which compares to the state average of ten percent.  Six percent of wells tested positive for coliform bacteria and arsenic was detected at low levels in only three wells…also below the state average.  UW Fond du lac and the Public Health Department recommend all residents with private drinking water wells sample their water annually.
