6-3-13 home repair ripoffs
MADISON, Wis. (AP) —
Wisconsin officials are warning residents about unauthorized home repair
workers who intend to rip homeowners off.
The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection says these
workers often show up at people's doors after a major storm and offer to do
driveway, siding, roofing or paint work at an attractive price. The department says the workers often ask for
upfront pay but never finish their promised job. They also are known to steal
homeowners' valuables by offering free indoor inspections. Officials say homeowners should never let
these workers in or give into their sales tactics. Homeowners should call police
immediately if someone starts a job on their property without permission.
