BMX bike enthusiasts in Fond du Lac are getting their
wish. The Fond du lac city council voted last night to allow BMX bikes
to use the Adelaide Park skateboard park on a trial basis this
summer. Council president Sam Meyer says he voted in favor of the
proposal despite reservations. "They deserve a chance. When I was on county board we gave the ATVers a chance on Eisenbahn trail. That seemed to work. I hope they prove my reservations wrong," Meyer said. Police had voiced their opposition citing safety risks and
physical confrontations between skateboarders and bikers in the past. This past April a local BMX group submitted a petition with over 500 signatures in
favor of allowing BMX bikes in the skate park. Ryan Rochwite says BMX riders and skateboarders can co-exist
at the park.
