AAA projects 94.5 million Americans will journey
50 miles or more from home during the year-end holiday season, an
increase of 0.6 percent from the 94 million people who traveled last
year. This upward trend marks the fifth consecutive year of increases
and the highest travel volume recorded for the season. The year-end
holiday period is defined as Saturday, December 21 to Wednesday, January
1. In Wisconsin, more than 1.8 million people are expected
to travel for the holidays, also a 0.6 percent increase compared to last
year, according to the AAA forecast. Of those, nearly 1.7 million
people plan to travel by auto while about 100,000 will travel by air.
The remaining travelers will go by rail, bus or ship.
