On
Saturday, December 28, 2013 at approximately 2:42pm, the Fond du Lac County
Communications Center received a report of a vehicle which had broken through
the ice on Kettle Moraine Lake in the Town of Osceola. The caller was unable to determine if anyone
was inside the vehicle, and during the course of the call indicated the vehicle
had become completely submerged. The Fond du
Lac County Sheriff’s Office, Campbellsport Fire Department and Ambulance did
respond to the scene. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team was
activated, and divers from the Campbellsport Fire Department were preparing for
a rescue attempt based on it being unknown if anyone was still in the vehicle. At
approximately 3:00pm, the Fond du Lac County Communications Center received a
phone call from the vehicle owner stating he was out of the vehicle, home safe,
and was the lone occupant of the vehicle. The area on
Kettle Moraine Lake were the vehicle broke through was an area of open water
approximately one week ago, and had frozen over with 4 to 5 inches of ice. The Fond du
Lac County Sheriff’s Offices urges those that use the frozen waterways to do so
with caution, as ice conditions can vary greatly from one lake to another, and
from one area to another on the same lake.
