Wisconsin has launched
the state’s first virtual student teaching program through the University of
Wisconsin-Oshkosh. Student teacher mike Wilbert volunteered to be the first participant
of the program that launched earlier this fall. Wilbert spent the first nine
weeks of the course student teaching in front of a virtual classroom and then
completed nine weeks of tradition, in-person student teaching.
Despite a few technical
difficulties at the start of the course, the program is setting a future for
teacher preparation programs. UW Oshkosh knows that many students who leave the
program will wind up teaching in virtual programs and they want to make sure
that they meet the needs of these students.
A review of the trial
run will be made by UW Oshkosh and modifications will occur before next fall.
