12-24-13 health overhaul

APPLETON, Wis. (AP) — Some Wisconsin business owners say companies are putting off decisions to hire or expand because they're not sure how the new health care law will play out.  Some companies worry that their health care costs will rise and others are afraid the law will keep changing.  Mark Haupt is an executive with crane manufacturer The Manitowoc Co. He says the new law will cost the company millions of dollars annually in fees, taxes and additional plan requirements. He says the company hopes to limit costs through medical screenings and wellness programs.  Pam Branshaw is with Wipfli, an accounting firm that oversees employee benefits. She says small businesses can expect to see health insurance costs rise 25 percent, which is why some owners are thinking hard before hiring.
