12-16-13 water rescue-dodge county
On
Saturday, 12-14-13 at 2:45 A.M. the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office 9-1-1 Center
received a report of a man in the water on Beaver Dam Lake in the Town of
Trenton. Fox
Lake Officer Wegner was first on scene and as he utilized his thermal imaging
camera he was able to locate a male subject approximately 300 yards north of
the Hickory Point Rd. landing. Officer
Wegner and Deputy Taylor Nehls discovered the male subject had driven his 4
wheel All Terrain Vehicle off of the ice and into open water. The ATV was submerged and the male subject
was standing on the ATV attempting to keep his head above the water. A
roped flotation device was used to pull the subject out of the water at which
time he was transported by EMS to Beaver Dam Community Hospital. A nearby neighbor also assisted with the
rescue. Sheriff
Ninmann commends Officer Wegner, Deputy Nehls, Sgt. Weninger, and the citizen
for their brave actions, courage and heroism. All disregarded their personal wellbeing
in order to save the life of a man who chose to not make his own safety a
priority. The
Dodge County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the City of Fox Lake Police
Department, the Beaver Dam Fire Department and DNR.
