12-16-13 uw system pay

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (AP) — Recent pay figures show that professors in the University of Wisconsin System generally earn less than they could at comparable universities.  The figures underscore the challenge of attracting and retaining the best professors.  For example, full professors at UW-Madison had an average salary of $106,200 last year. The median salary among 11 similar schools was $134,500.
Devinder Sandhu teaches biology at University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. His base salary is listed at $68,000, but he says he gets offers that would pay $93,000 or more.  UW has been pushing the Legislature for more control and flexibility to set competitive salaries.  The UW System has given out more than $9 million in raises over the past three school years, but the amount falls each year.
