12-11-13 mobile home park residents thankful nobody was hurt during standoff

Residents of the Elms Mobile Home park in Fond du Lac say they are just thankful that nobody was hurt in this week’s shootout.   Jerry Stencel lives only a few trailers away from where the gunman opened fire.  Stencel tells WFDL news the suspect was holed up in a first floor apartment, firing multiple shots at police officers.  "I was shoveling snow and the cop told me to get in (mobile home) they alerted the SWAT team and told me to get in your trailer,"  Stencel said.  "I no sooner got in the trailer and next thing I know I heard the shooting."   Donna Neitzke lives directly across the street a couple hundred feet from the  suspect’s apartment and was at home when the shooting started.  "I heard a noise and thought someone was kicking the side of my trailer, that's how loud it was.  I actually stuck my head out the door because I didn't know what was going on,"  Neitzke told WFDL news.  "I saw the SWAT team and everybody with guns right across the street so pretty much I just hid out in here all day long."   Neitzke lives on the opposite side of the street from three trailers that were hit by bullets.  Kristen Hodges lives directly behind the apartment.   "I heard some whispering outside my room, I was sleeping in the back of my place and there were some police officers looking at the brick building over here."  Hodges, is an Iraq war veteran and says unfortunately the incident doesn’t come as a shock to her.
