Governor Walker has signed the so-called Brown Jug bill into law. The bill was
co-authored by Republican state senator Rick Gudex of Fond du Lac.
It will allow a retailer fto bring a civil action against an underager or their parents if the underage person illegally
enters a tavern, illegally attempts to purchase alcohol or
successfully purchases alcohol after falsifying his or her age. If a court rules in favor of the retailer, the defendant
will have to pay $1000. Gudex says the bill makes it clear that an underage person
can go into the premises to purchase alcohol if they are
assisting police in conducting sting operations to enforce underage alcohol laws.
