12-11-13 swat team rescued four people from apartment building during standoff

The Fond du Lac police chief says he believes shots fired by a suspect involved in a police standoff were directed at officers.  Forty year old Shannon Rogler is being held in the Fond du Lac County Jail after he surrendered to police following the nearly  five hour standoff.  Police Chief Bill Lamb says multiple shots were fired after the first two police officers arrived on the scene at a small apartment in The Elms Mobile Home park on South Main Street Monday morning.  The shooting incident brought back memories of the deadly shooting incident from a couple of years ago that claimed the life of police officer  Craig Birkholz.   Chief Lamb says his initial reaction is that the police response was appropriate.  The chief says the police department’s tactical vehicle was used for the first time since it was placed into operation about a month ago…and was used to rescue four people who were in the apartment complex where the shooter was.
