5-15-14 berlin man charged in domestic incident
A
Berlin man is arrested following a domestic dispute at a residence in the City
of Berlin. Berlin Police Captain
Kevin Block says on Sunday morning just before 7 a.m., officers were made aware
of a domestic disturbance at a residence on Canal Street. It was reported that a male subject had
battered a 29-year-old pregnant female at the residence and the victim was
complaining of injuries to her stomach area. Block says City of Berlin Police and the
Green Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on scene and attempted multiple
times to make contact with the individuals in the home with no success. As the investigation continued, officers
learned that the male suspect might be in the possession of a firearm, which
prompted officers to evacuate several homes and a church in the area. Block says a little while later officers
were able to make contact with the female victim, at which point she exited the
home and received medical attention.
Telephone contact was then made with the suspect; he exited the residence
and was arrested without incident.
The suspect, 36-year-old Rico R. Velasquez of Berlin, was placed on a
probation hold and domestic abuse charges will be referred to the Green Lake
County Sheriff’s Department.
Velasquez is currently being held in the Green Lake County
Jail.
