5-23-14 planning underway for new fdl county highway garage

As construction gets underway on a new highway garage in Campbellsport discussion is underway on a new main garage for the Fond du Lac County Highway Department.  Fond du Lac County Highway commissioner Tom Jahnke says the highway committee voted last week to explore building a new facility at a new location.  "The committee chose right now to look outside this (Dixie Street)  property,"   Jahnke told WFDL news. "One of the alternatives was to look at property around this building, and maybe buy up and build something in this area.  Its pretty difficult to do because its a fairly established neighborhood."   Jahnke says costs for a new garage could approach the $20 million mark.  He says the department has outgrown its Dixie Street location which was built in the 1920s.   Jahnke says at this point there is no timetable for construction.  Meanwhile construction on a new Campbellsport highway garage is slated for completion by the end of the year.
