MILWAUKEE (AP) — The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater marketing staff is getting a "thinking day" this summer, where they'll unplug from everything and just think about how they can do their jobs better. Marketing director Sara Kuhl says she hopes the experience leads to more ideas and creativity. She says her 12 staffers are often too busy to stop and reflect on their jobs. Assistant director Jeff Angileri plans to use his day thinking about whether there's a better way to do tasks that generally get approached the same way every time. Other groups have tried similar techniques to enhance creativity. But Marquette University advertising professor Tom Altstiel says inspiration can be hard to chase. He says good ideas often pop up during a commute or in the shower, not during planned brainstorming efforts.
