7-15-13 polling place access

The Fond du Lac County Clerk says she’s not surprised at a new state Government Accountability Report that found thousands of violations of federal laws governing polling place access in Wisconsin.  Clerk Lisa Freiberg says polling places in Fond du lac County were among those inspected by the GAB over the past 16 elections.  Freiberg says there were minor violations found at some Fond du lac County polling places including the Fairgrounds.  "A lot of it was signs, and that's a big thing a lot of our municipalities didn't have the required signs,"  Freiberg said.  "Another thing was doors and we even found this at the fairgrounds...there wasn't a handicap door."    The board says statewide more than a third of the violations were enough to prevent a voter with a disability from entering a polling place and casting a ballot privately but Freiberg says that wasn't the case locally.
