7-27-13 fdl liquor license ordinance change proposed

The Fond du Lac Alcohol Licensing committee will consider proposed ordinance changes when it comes to renewing liquor licenses at its meeting Monday afternoon.  The proposed change comes after the Fond du lac city council voted last month to renew the historic Retlaw hotel’s alcohol and liquor licenses.  The city had threatened not to renew the licenses because the hotel was several months delinquent on its taxes and utility fees owed to the city.  In the end the hotel paid its bill and its licenses were renewed.  To prevent this from happening in the future city manager Joe Moore

is recommending changing city ordinance to read that no license would be granted if the applicant owes the city money.
