5-7-14 republican lawmaker announces retirement

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The sudden and unexpected retirement announcement of Republican state Sen. Neal Kedzie has another long-serving conservative lawmaker considering a run for the seat.
Mike Mikalsen, the spokesman for Rep. Steve Nass, of Whitewater, says Nass is seriously considering a run and will announce his decision as soon as Wednesday.  Mikalsen says Nass has spoken with the other two Republican representatives in the Senate district and they've agreed to support Nass should he run.  Neither Rep. Tyler August, of Lake Geneva, nor Rep. Amy Loudenbeck, of Clinton, returned messages seeking comment.   The 58-year-old Kedzie, of Elkhorn, announced Tuesday he would not seek re-election after serving more than 17 years in the Legislature, including the past 12 in the solidly Republican Senate district. He previously had announced he would run again.
