5-16-14 child tractor safety

A Fond du Lac County extension farm safety specialist says he generally agrees with a new safety campaign encouraging parents to keep children under age 12 off of tractors.   The Wisconsin based Childhood Agricultural Safety Network says many children who are killed are merely riding along with parents who are working.  UW Fond du Lac extension farm safety specialist Mike Rankin says its not a good idea to have a young child riding on a tractor.  "A lot of the deaths that occur to children on farms are usually in a situation where they're (children) are not actually doing the work, they are just around the work,"  Rankin said.
