7-9-13 judge sets july 17th date for arguments in abortion lawsuit

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A federal judge has scheduled arguments for July 17 in a lawsuit filed seeking to block a new Wisconsin law that would require women seeking abortions to first undergo an ultrasound.
U.S. District Judge William Conley set the date for arguments in the lawsuit filed by Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin and the American Civil Liberties Union. They filed a lawsuit on Friday arguing that the new law was unconstitutional.  The groups are seeking a temporary restraining order to block the law.  Gov. Scott Walker signed the Republican-backed bill into law on Friday and it took effect on Monday.  In addition to requiring an ultrasound, the law also bans doctors who lack admitting privileges at nearby hospitals from performing the procedures.
