7-16-13 walker-mining site guard controversy

WATERTOWN, Wis. (AP) — Governor Scott Walker says he hopes "cooler heads will prevail" at the site of a proposed iron ore mine in northern Wisconsin. Masked guards wearing camoflauge and armed with rifles were posted at the mining site last week, but then removed because the Arizona company did not have the proper Wisconsin licenses. The guards were hired by mining company Gogebic Taconite after protesters cursed at and confronted mine workers last month.
