OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh has started construction on a multi-million dollar digester at the state's largest dairy farm. The digester at Rosendale Dairy will use livestock waste to produce methane that can be burned for power. It is expected to produce enough energy to operate the equivalent of 1,200 homes. The university also is building a public education center with the digester. UW Oshkosh Foundation President Arthur Rathjen says the center will be used by students and faculty for research and teaching. Rathjen says the project provides an opportunity to expand the university's learning opportunities while helping the community address odor and waste issues at the farm.
