5-8-14 night deer hunting

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — State attorneys are trying to persuade the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals to reject a request from Wisconsin's Chippewa tribes to reopen a ruling barring tribal hunters from shooting deer at night.  The tribes have pushed for years for a night deer hunt. U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb rejected the notion in 1991. The tribes asked her two years ago to reopen the judgment, arguing the state has allowed night hunting to cull deer and slow chronic wasting disease Crabb refused. The tribes asked the 7th Circuit earlier this year to force her to re-open the case.  The state Justice Department filed a brief Wednesday with the 7th Circuit arguing nothing has changed since 1991 that would justify revisiting the case.
