The good news is that
spring is finally here, but with it comes pests that, besides being annoying, can also cause
illnesses. We’re talking about ticks and mosquitoes. State
epidemiologist Zip Johnson says while
mosquitoes aren’t a problem yet…there have been a lot of
reports of ticks emerging from dormancy.
Johnson says ticks can
carry several diseases, including Lyme disease. Johnson says its
imperative for people who enjoy the outdoors take steps to lessen the
chance of contracting tick borne diseases, by wearing lightweight long-sleeve shirts and pants and using bug spray. Johnson says Wisconsin
residents can help track the spread of West Nile virus using the Dead Bird
Reporting Hotline.
